Volunteer Day with PAWS Atlanta

At Sanabria Law, we believe that being part of a community means showing up and doing the work. That is why our team recently spent a full day volunteering at PAWS Atlanta, one of the largest no-kill animal shelters in the region. It was a hands-on, sleeves-rolled-up kind of day, and every member of our staff left feeling grateful for the experience.
Getting the Transport Van Ready
Our morning started in the parking lot. PAWS relies on transport vehicles to move animals between facilities and to offsite adoption events. We helped deep-clean and organize the transport van so it would be safe, sanitary, and comfortable for animals on their next trip. This included scrubbing down surfaces, restocking supplies, and making sure everything was secured properly for the road.
Cleaning Kennels and Grounds
Next came the real elbow grease. Our team split up across the facility to tackle kennel cleaning and grounds maintenance. Keeping a shelter clean is one of the most important things you can do for the animals who live there. Fresh bedding, sanitized floors, and tidy outdoor spaces all contribute to a healthier, less stressful environment for dogs and cats waiting for their forever homes.
We swept walkways, picked up debris from the outdoor areas, and helped organize storage rooms that hold donated food and supplies. These are the behind-the-scenes tasks that shelters need help with every single day, and it felt good to make a visible difference.
The Best Part: Time with the Dogs
Of course, the highlight of the day was spending time with the shelter dogs. After the hard work was done, we took turns walking dogs, playing fetch in the yard, and simply sitting with the pups who needed some human companionship. Many shelter animals do not get enough one-on-one interaction, and even a short play session can make a big difference in their socialization and overall well-being.
Our team quickly discovered a few favorites. It is hard not to fall in love when a dog puts its head in your lap and looks up at you with those eyes. Several of us are already talking about coming back for another visit, and a couple of team members even started looking into the adoption process on the spot.
Why We Volunteer
Community involvement has always been a core value at Sanabria Law. Whether we are sponsoring Thanksgiving meals for local families or covering pet adoption fees, we look for opportunities to give back in meaningful ways. Volunteering at PAWS Atlanta was a reminder that making an impact does not always require writing a check. Sometimes it just means showing up with a mop, a pair of work gloves, and a willingness to get your hands dirty.
We want to thank the staff and volunteers at PAWS Atlanta for welcoming us and for the incredible work they do every day. If you are looking for a way to get involved in your community, we encourage you to reach out to your local animal shelter and ask how you can help.
